Directions
Traveling from Melbourne, take Hume Highway to Euroa. From Euroa travel towards Merton on Euroa-Mansfield Road. Turn left towards Strathbogie and get onto Polly McQuinns Road. Surface is tar sealed and traverses some fairly steep grades. The weir is alongside a road bridge and the picnic ground cum camping spot is on the opposite side of the bridge. Access is through a gate reached by slowly crossing a rock shelf 25m to the east of a primitive roadside toilet block. Locals drive long distances during summer to swim and frolic in the icy water of the large pond which is incredible deep and said to still conceal the body of Polly McQuinn. In 1890, the young school teacher mysteriously disappeared while driving a horse and dray. No trace of her, the horse or the dray were ever found. It is theorised the horse bolted and plunged headlong into the "bottomless" water hole.

Comment
We stayed 1 night at Strathbogie Recreation ground and 3 nights at Polly McQuinn's Weir in our 16ft caravan in early May 2010 while we explored the Strathbogie Ranges and surrounds. No one else on either site. So peaceful and beautiful and no ... we did not experience this ... "Polly McQuinn Weir. The ghost of a young woman called Polly McQuinn, who drowned at the crossing more than 100 years ago, is believed to call out for help to horrified witnesses passing by".
