Mitsubishi Motors Australia has issued a recall notice on Mitsubishi MY 2013-2017 NW & NX Pajeros built between 7 January 2013 and 31 January 2017 and available for sale between 31 January 2013 and 28 September 2017.  20,187 vehicles are affected by this recall which relates to Takata passenger airbag inflator – Beta.

The recall notice states “If an affected vehicle is involved in an accident and the airbag goes off, the airbag inflator may rupture.’  The hazard is stated as ‘In the event of an airbag inflator rupture, metal fragments could possibly shoot out, straight through the airbag cushion material towards the vehicle occupants causing serious injury or fatality.’

The notice states that owners of affected vehicles will receive a letter from Mitsubishi Motors Australia asking them to contact their preferred dealer to arrange replacement of the airbag inflator free of charge and if they have not already done so, that owners must immediately contact a Mitsubishi dealership to arrange the repairs urgently.
