Castle Rock Camping Ground at Girraween National Park near Stanthorpe, Queensland, is our December Freedom Camp of the Month.

Situated on the Queensland / New South Wales border, Castle Rock Camping Ground has sites suitable for both tents and most RVs.  As it is in a National Park, there is no power but the amenities block has a timed light, flushing toilets and gas heated hot showers on timers.  Being a National Park, generators and pets are not permitted.

Girraween National Park is well known for its granite rock formations and is a popular destination for South-East Queenslanders and travellers who like to bushwalk or just relax and take in nature.  There you will find abundant wildlife with kangaroos, goannas and a birdlife right in the campground, not to mention the beautiful array of wattle and wildflowers during Spring.

There is a lot to see and do while enjoying your Girraween stay in the Granite Belt region.  You can visit the many wineries, the Jam Factory and Bramble Patch and taste a variety of jams and other condiments.  There’s also a cheese factory, maze, brewery and Mt Stirling Olives.  If you have a 4WD, you can enjoy a 4WD day trip into the northern end of Sundown National Park to Red Rock Gorge or down to Burrows Waterhole past the old tin mines.

Bookings for Girraween National Park, as with many Queensland National Parks, should be made online on the Camping Bookings page of the Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing before arrival.  There is a small daily fee per person for camping and an e-Permit system is in place.
